The Pancreatic Cancer walk takes place at Jones Beach each October. Unfortunately this year the walk, scheduled for October 9, was cancelled due to inclement weather.

“Not being able to come together this year as a community was disappointing for all of us,” according to 2016longislandwalk.kintera.org.

“It’s one of the highlights of our year. But, your hard work did not go to waste. Every penny of the money raised goes to research. We are on the cusp of some important breakthroughs thanks to your support.”

The walk consists of support, happiness and the community coming together as one to support the victims of this disease. Even without the walk, $892,148 was raised and that total continues to increase.

The walk usually consists of company stands that hand out free prizes, face painting, music and much more that brings this walk to life. In most cases participants walk for a certain “team” even though all donations go towards research for a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Not only can you walk but volunteering is also an option as well. From the website www.pancreaticcancerresearchevents.org , volunteers have the option to Set-up/route marking, registration, Greeters/crowd control, Distributing food and refreshments, assisting along the route and at designed rest stops and breaking down/clean-up.

One reason on why this walk is so important to many people is because to this day there is still no cure for this terrible disease. As a community raising awareness together, soon enough a cure can be found.
