Grammy-winning rapper, song writer and singer Kanye West has announced he will be running for president of the United States at this past VMA’s, an award show where artists from all different genres come together to walk the red carpet, show off their latest threads, and win fan-voted awards.
Kanye received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award given by Taylor Swift, who he stole the spotlight from at the 2009 VMA’s. Swift gave a brief introduction on how Kanye had an impact on her career today, as well as his journey throughout the years. She closed her speech with a quote from the 2009 awards when he expressed his opinion that Beyoncé should receive best female video as opposed to Swift.
What seemed to be a last-minute speech left the crowd speechless, and some even in tears… of laughter. As Kanye began his 12-minute speech the crowd appeared confused. He could have been reading the Applebee’s menu at that point. He filled the air with lots of “bros”, repeated several times how he did not get the gist of award shows, and finished by saying, “Yes, I rolled up something before I came here.”
As he concluded his mind-blowing speech he made a statement that left stars, celebrities, and everyone watching from their couches baffled. Kanye wrapped it all up before he left the stage by saying, “I don’t know what I finna (gonna) lose after this. It don’t matter, though. It’s not about me. It’s about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
So picture it, Kim K as our first lady? Our national anthem replaced by “Run This Town?” His daughter North West’s birthday a national holiday? Basically the world would be completely altered if Kanye goes along with his idea.
