We all seem to have a love-hate relationship with opinions. For one, we all love to express our opinions through conversation, art, actions, or even through social media sites like Twitter, which seems to be the most popular way of getting thoughts out into the world. On the other hand, some believe that opinions are best left written in a personal diary, rather than broadcasted on the internet.
Honestly, no one really cares about what you think. You didn’t like that movie? Well, I did. You didn’t like the last issue of The Warrior? Well, why don’t you submit your own articles? Then you could read what you like. Wait, you don’t want to come to school? So you’d prefer going to work instead? Opinions set up a premise for our future actions; yet, expressing an opinion seems to make humans feel heard. Being able to publicly say how we’re feeling, or have a discussion with friends or family where different viewpoints are present is important because it shows the extent people will go to prove that what they believe is right.
People are bound to have different opinions. Everyone knows that all humans are supposed to have different hair, eyes, noses, and bodies. So why are many taken aback when they realize a friend doesn’t have the same opinion as them? If everyone had the same opinion, there would be no need to discuss or dispute. We would all eat the same food, say the same thing, and never question the way the world works. When it comes to opinions on everyday, minor things, like having to wake up or where you want to go for dinner, they tend to be annoying and come off as complaints. Opinions on controversial issues, literature, the government, and what’s happening in the world, though, are vital because they lead to question and expression.
The first amendment of the United States Constitution ensures that everyone has the freedom to speak freely without censorship. Yet, some don’t want to hear anyone else’s opinion except their own. Yes, opinions can be annoying, but they are everywhere. Trying to hide from opinions would be like trying to avoid sunlight- nearly impossible to dodge. To the people who don’t like hearing opinions, I assure you that there is a way out- ignore them. If you don’t like it, don’t listen, because they’re not going anywhere.
