Episode Seven – Leaving You “Heart”broken

Isabella White, Reporter

The highly anticipated and incredibly entertaining tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race is well on the way to crowning its winner. This season began with a total of 14 queens, 7 have already been eliminated. Contestants Aquaria, Asia O’Hara, Eureka, Kameron Michaels, Miz Cracker, Monèt X Change and The Vixen still remain on the show and are fighting furiously for victory. Unfortunately, Monique Heart, Blair St. Clair, Mayhem Miller, Dusty Ray Bottoms, Yuhua Hamasaki, Kalorie Karbdashian Williams, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo have all be eliminated from the competition. The show is full of laugh-out loud comedy, amazing “mini” and “maxi” challenges, and incredible makeup skills and gorgeous runway outfits; designed by the queens themselves of course.

This week’s episode opened up with the girls walking into the workroom and wiping away the message departing contestant Blair had left on the mirror for them. Suddenly, RuPaul entered the room, and it was time for the mini challenge. The challenge consisted of the queens “reading” each other. In other words, poking fun at each other to see who could formulate the funniest insults. Almost every remark was hilarious, but the true winner was Eureka, who clearly had the wittiest answers.

After the mini challenge it was time for the maxi challenge. The requirements were that each queen had to pick a celebrity to impersonate and portray them in the “snatch game,” where they answered a series of questions as their character. Some highlights included Monèt X Change pretending to fall asleep while dressed as Maya Angelou, Eureka cracking everyone up with her impression of Honey Boo Boo, and Aquaria’s hysterical responses as first lady Melania Trump. These three girls were the judges favorites of the night. Aquaria was crowned the overall winner after she wowed the judges not only with her performance in the snatch game, but with her stunning mermaid outfit on the runway that night. Kameron Michaels and Miz Cracker were both decidedly safe after they excelled in the snatch game and composed beautiful mermaid outfits. Miz Cracker, my personal favorite of the season, looked glamorous as a mermaid and was a standout in the snatch game for me. I cannot wait to see even more from her next week.

Sadly, with every winner there is a loser. The three girls at the bottom were Asia O’Hara, Monique Heart and the Vixen. Rupaul chose Asia as the last safe queen of the night, leaving Monique and the Vixen to lip sync to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Cut to the Feeling,” in order to decide who would be eliminated and sent home. The competition was neck and neck until Monique failed to remember the words to the song. Monique’s luck went from bad to worse when she attempted to do a cartwheel onstage, and almost knocked into the Vixen! It was clear to Rupaul that the Vixen had won the lip sync. It’s a shame that such a strong contender in the competition had to “sashay away” so soon. Monique brought personality, beauty and excitement to the show. I will definitely miss watching her every week.
