Milk’s Favorite Cookie Bar

Annalisa Madonia, Reporter

America’s favorite cookie, the Oreo, is typically enjoyed with a glass of milk after a long day at work or school. In my opinion, treating yourself after working vigorously is one of the best feelings, and the Oreo is an excellent outlet for a day of stress. The Oreo cookie craze has been rampant ever since its creation in the early 1900s, and it’s understandable because of how addicting they are. Oreos are not only enjoyed with the typical glass of milk but in the years following its birth, it has been added to ice cream creating the iconic cookies and cream flavor enjoyed by every age, as well as other tasty desserts.
However, in this article, I will not be tackling the perfection of cookies and cream ice cream, but the lesser known Oreo bar. What is an Oreo bar, you ask? It is a decadent treat that involves a layer of Oreos, chocolate, and cream cheese that is smoothed over a bed of Oreo crumbs. Sounds delicious, right? This is one of my favorite things to make because it is so simple and requires no oven. If you are ever too busy to make something for a party, this is the perfect snack because of how easy it is and it sure is a crowd pleaser!
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups of Oreo crumbs + Oreos for decorating the top of the bars
  • 4 Tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 8 oz of softened cream cheese
  • ¾ cup of melted chocolate

  1. Line a 9×9 inch on with parchment paper
  2. Combine the melted butter and the first 2 cups of Oreo crumbs (leave the last cup for later) in a food processor. Once combined to the consistency of wet sand, press the crumbs into the bottom of the lined pan.
  3.  In the same food processor add the cream cheese, the last cup of Oreo crumbs, and the melted chocolate. Pulse until combined and add the mixture to the top of the Oreo crumbs in the pan and smooth out the top.
  4. Decorate with the remaining Oreos and chill in the freezer for 3+ hours.
  5. Slice to your preferred size and enjoy!
