On August 1st, 2024 Netflix released A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder based on the insanely popular 2019 book trilogy. As someone who has read all three books in the series, I decided to watch the show and tell you if it lives up to the book: if it’s better, or if it’s worse. But most importantly, without any spoilers for those of you who have not read the book or watched the show.
Now, here’s a short little summary of the main plot of the story. This book takes place in the UK and there is a famous case that took place in Pip’s (our main character’s) town. In fact, the victim and alleged perpetrator of the case went to her school and she knew people who were directly associated with them. The victim’s name was Andie Bell, who was believed to have been murdered by her boyfriend Salil Singh, who killed himself after texting a confession to the murder to his father. However, Pip Fitz-Amobi does not believe that this is what really happened and plans to prove it wrong through her senior project. Together with Salil’s younger brother, Ravi Singh, they investigate the case.
After watching the episodes and skimming through the book again I concluded that the two are very similar, although the show has different scenes. I believe that it was a good call as it added more depth to the story and background characters that I do not remember seeing in the book. This show has been renewed for a second season following the second book, “Good Girl, Bad Blood”. Considering how good the first season was, I can’t wait to see the second.
