Love dogs? Well, you may have some interest in the annual dog walk and park fair that occurred October 5. The Forgotten Friends of LI foundation held its 4th annual “Let the Paws Do the Walkin’” Dog Walk and Park Fair. It took place at Forest City Community Park in Wantagh and our fellow Wantagh students were able to take part. WHS’s art honor society students Kiernan Rathgaber, Ashley Faverey, Jenny Breyer, Kyra Lipman, Lucy Bailey (me), and many others took part at the tattooing and face painting table.
Among the sea of tables were fancy dog treats, dog apparel, and many other canine-friendly accessories for sale. There was also bountiful information on adopting man’s best friend and the protection and safety of the dogs of LI.
“The goal of this event is to assist in raising the funds required to open a no-kill adoption center for our animals. We rescue many canine and feline friends; however, we must constantly try to acquire foster homes in order for the dogs to have a warm, loving place to rehabilitate following a shelter stay. This fundraising event will help us achieve our dream.”
The event was calm, friendly, but a bit on the unoccupied side. It’s a thoughtful event and deserves recognition for its devotion to America’s beloved furry animal.
