Doritos Claims to Create a “Crunchless” Chip for Women

February 7, one of the most well-known chip brands in America, Doritos, announced it will be making a new “crunchless” chip. No, not just regular crunchless chips – but crunchless chips specifically made for women. Because, apparently, it’s not okay for women to be eating crunchy chips, PepsiCo decided it needed to make one crunchless just for women.

The PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi says that women hope to avoid crunching loudly, getting messy with the Doritos cheese, and having a chip bag in their purse.

“Men enjoy the crunch, lick their fingers after the bag is finished, and always pour the remaining crumbs in the bag into their mouths,” Nooyi said in Hello Giggles. “Women want to experience the same joy in the crunch, licking their fingers and eating the remaining crumbs, but don’t like to do so in public.”

I had no idea that I had to worry about how loud I crunched chips in public. If this is society’s answer to the call for gender equality, then we have a long way to go. Many women say that this is not what they meant when they asked for empowerment for females worldwide. But it also wouldn’t be the first time something insane went viral and was fake. Knowing the Internet, it turned out to later be fake news. The day after the announcement, the Twitter account for Doritos tweeted:

“We already have Doritos for women – they’re called Doritos, and they’re enjoyed by millions of people every day. At the same time, we know needs and preferences continue to evolve and we’re always looking for new ways to engage and delight our consumers.”
