Every fall, seniors across the nation face a rush of stress and excitement, more commonly known as college application season. College essays are written, revised, rewritten, and then revised again. Transcripts need to be sent to every college to which a student is applying. Wantagh High School flaunts its 95% college send-off rate, and our guidance department always does an excellent job at aiding students going through this tedious and anxiety-producing process.
However, for the Class of 2024, the college admissions season (September-December 2023), is also the season for something else: guidance office renovations. Students are having difficulty reaching their guidance counselors for conferences, as construction limits access to the office. Seniors have complained about this inconvenience greatly, as proximity to guidance counselors is a crucial factor towards editing college essays and submitting the notorious yellow transcript request forms.
Renovations are scheduled to be completely over by December, but by then, all early action applicants will be done. We thank our guidance counselors for all they do for us, and hopefully the Class of 2025 has an easier time accessing the department as renovations will be complete.
