If you have ever stopped in the library you’ve probably run into Barbara Berg. Ms. Berg is the library clerk. Her job is to be the librarian’s right hand man. She’s also there for the students, to listen to them, and to help them out. Ms. Berg has also been volunteering at the Ronald Mcdonald House for about 7-8 years. The Ronald McDonald House is an organization that focuses on helping children and their families. They are a donor based charity that was created to provide a comfortable and safe environment for children with cancer and other illnesses. She started her volunteer work in the Little Baker program. She introduced her 3 daughters to the volunteer program and they would volunteer together. They would spend hours in the kitchen making rice pudding for the guests and thought what they were doing was so little compared to what they were going through, but when the guests came down and saw what they had baked they were so grateful and appreciative for Barbara and her family for helping them out. When covid hit, Ms. Berg started volunteering as a receptionist. She told me she always thought of RMH as a respectable and honorable place to be in. “Every time I arrive, I feel I should remove my shoes at the door because anywhere parents bring their children for healing, is truly sacred ground.” Ms. Berg is there as a listener and someone to be there for the parents and children that stay at the Ronald McDonald House. She has such a big heart and loves what she does not only at RMH but also here at Wantagh. Ms. Berg loves her job as the Senior Clerk and loves working with the staff and students everyday.
