This year, Wantagh welcomed a new art teacher, Mrs. DuBois, who started teaching in Wantagh at the beginning of this school year. Mrs. DuBois teaches two classes of Studio in Art, one section of Drawing and Painting, two sections of Yearbook Production, and 6th grade Art. She is also the advisor for High School Art Club and Art Portfolio Development.
Mrs. DuBois grew up in Bellmore and moved to Merrick before she started high school. After high school, she received her bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Springfield College in Massachusetts and received her master’s degree in Studio Art from Adelphi University. Her first teaching job was Holy Trinity Diocesan High School in Hicksville for two years. She then moved onto the High School for Law, Advocacy and Community Justice & Queens Collegiate where she was the only art teacher at both schools. After her first four years of teaching she moved to Austin, Texas and taught at James Bowie High School for six years. She then took off the 2022-2023 school year to care for her son and move back to Long Island where she now is currently working at Wantagh.
Since Mrs. DuBois grew up so close to Wantagh she knows what a strong community and school district we have. This is her dream teaching position and she’s so happy to be a part of the faculty. She mentioned how kind, approachable, and professional all the staff are and how they are phenomenal people to work with. Mrs. Dubois’ students can testify that she is a wonderful teacher who has taught them various art techniques that will help them through the rest of high school. Mrs.DuBois is kind and welcoming to her students, making it exciting to attend her class everyday. She also added, “Our students have many opportunities to grow and thrive here.” Mrs. DuBois hopes to become a vital part of Wantagh UFSD and continue her career at this school.
