Sportsnite Returns: Black vs Gold

As we advance into the second half of the school year, talk of Sportsnite becomes more and more common. Sportsnite is a very admired competition between the Gold team and the Black team. During Sportsnite, the two teams will face off in sports competitions, spirit competitions, and dance competitions. Sportsnite has been a recurring event for more than two decades. In past years, on the day of the event, people would be lining up around the main entrance of the high school in order to get seats. The event that was previously run by Mrs. Sales and Ms. Browne was then taken over by Mrs. Zarrella and Ms. Pepe.

Zarrella and Pepe took over Sportsnite in 2021. As Mrs. Zarraella states, “From day one I was absolutely obsessed with it. I loved all of the traditions and I was so eager to learn about all of them.” Both Zarrella and Pepe have high energy and work together to successfully produce the Sportsnite event each year.

This year, Sportsnite preparations officially start on January 29th and the day of the competition is March 22nd. The overall captains this year, Amanda Coppolla and Abby Reif (Black team) and Sophia Kranis and Gabby Pangretic (Gold team) are very creative and have great energy. The most important aspect of Sportsnite is the healthy team-based camaraderie between the gold team and the black team. “We both care about it being a fun and positive experience for everyone. Sportsnite is all about spirit, family, and friendships” says Mrs. Zarrella. Mrs. Zarrella and Ms. Pepe hope to grow the Sportsnite program every year and continue to create a fun and optimistic environment for all of the participants.
