As an annual tradition hosted every year since 1956, Wantagh has been crowning a sophomore or junior attending Wantagh High School as Miss Wantagh.
Wantagh is the only community left on Long Island that still holds pageants, but they aren’t the typical pageants you may be thinking of. Miss Wantagh’s pageants aren’t about beauty, but for the contestants’ involvement with the community and academic achievements. They are hosted every July 4th directly after the Fourth of July Parade and are located at Wantagh Elementary School on Beech Street. Miss Wantagh pageants are coordinated and led by Ella Stevens and Miss Wantagh’s very first pageant winner in the year 1956, the year the first Miss Wantagh pageant hosted, was Lynn Clayton-luongo, who traveled from Everett, Massachusetts for Miss Wantagh 2016, and our most recent winner, Evelyn Caputo.
Congratulations to Wantagh’s 2024 pageant winner, Evelyn who was crowned as Miss Wantagh this previous July, and congratulations to all runner-ups and other contestants for your hard work and dedication towards the community!
