December 29th, 2024, the oldest living former U.S president died at age 100. As the news sweeps throughout the nation, it is important not only to remember Jimmy Carter, but the good things he left behind.
Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981. This year at which he served was a time of chaos. The Vietnam War had just ended and the Watergate scandal caused the resignation of President Richard Nixon. This left President Carter to deal with an energy crisis, the threat of inflation, and the Iran Hostage Crisis. He was known for his ability to make peace and won the Nobel Peace Prize for that specific ability. One of his more notable peace arrangements was The Camp David Accords which was signed by himself, the president of Egypt and the prime minister of Israel. Sadly, with all the chaos going on both in and outside of America, Americans felt he was not capable enough for the situation. This led him to be a 1 term president and not be elected for a second term. However, he continued his peace efforts after his presidency and helped and advocated for thousands of people until his death.
He should not be forgotten, but instead remembered for the kindness he admitted.
