Writing has been a passion of mine that my years in high school have helped cultivate over the years. With every essay I wrote, my word choice strengthened; with every AP English class I took, my ability to string a sentence together spun me into a world of completely new possibilities. But it took one place in Wantagh to help me reach my full potential as a writer: the journalism room in Wantagh High School.
My time as a member in journalism has made me a well-rounded student as I have learned how to be organized, have patience, and work with a team. I started my sophomore year as a reporter and it was this year that I began a passion for reporting and analyzing. Then in my junior year I was promoted to News Editor where I began to learn how to form the paper and also how to look over my peers’ work and how to positively critique them.
In my senior year I was finally accepted as a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Wantagh Warrior and my time here has been unforgettable. With an amazing team, amazing staff, and Mr. Rafferty, the paper gets better and better every edition. I want to thank all of my peers for being such attentive and passionate writers and reporters but also remembering to have fun while writing articles since writing should be fun!
As I further my education in college I plan on continuing a path in journalism. I will be attending the University of Delaware through the K-8 Teacher Education program. I will be seeking out the school’s paper, The UD Review, and reporting and writing for the paper. I am excited to continue this path due to all my involvement in journalism with Wantagh.
