Remembering Paul Walker

Remembering+Paul+Walker

Paul Walker, a famous actor best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in “The Fast and the Furious” movies, as well as a generous philanthropist, passed away this weekend in a horrific car accident. Walker was attending an event for his charity, Reach Out Worldwide, in Valencia, California, when he went for a ride in Roger Rodas’s Porsche Carrera GT. Rodas, a professional driver, was a good friend of Walkers. They initially met on a race track. At about 3:30 P.M. on November 30, the car lost control and hit a light pole and a tree. Both Rodas and Walker will be missed deeply, but Walker’s legacy lives on with his charity, Reach Out Worldwide.

Reach Out Worldwide is a non-profit organization that employs relief to victims of natural disasters. ROWW is based in California, and includes EMT’s, Paramedics, Doctors, Firefighters, Nurses, and Construction Workers. It was formed during the Haitian Earthquakes of 2010, and has been involved in the relief efforts of many worldwide disasters such as the Philippines Typhoon, Indonesian Tsunami, and Chilean Earthquake, as well as domestic disasters such as tornados in Alabama and Oklahoma.

Recently, ROWW volunteers went to the Philippines to aid the estimated 100,000 refugees. They provided food for the hungry, medical care to the injured and sick, and even a new boat for a fisherman who lost everything in the dreadful storm. The damages were estimated at $50 million dollars, but the 1,200 lives lost impact the areas affected more than money. Organizations such as Reach Out Worldwide limited the number of people who died after the storm by stopping the spread of infection in refugee centers, and providing countless people with other medical care.

Walker will also be remembered by his role in “The Fast and the Furious.” He played Brian O’Conner, cop turned criminal turned cop turned criminal (yes, twice). The movies have gained a huge following over the years, but production for a seventh film was halted after Walker’s death. The cast of the movies are heartbroken at his death. Vin Diesel posted on Facebook: “When I heard, I immediately flew back to California, and went directly from the plane to his mother’s house… I thought they needed my strength, but realized when I got there and broke down before his family, that it was I who needed theirs. His mother hugged me and said I am so sorry… I said sorry? You’re the mother who lost a son?… She said yes, but you lost your other half.”

Walker lived a humble life, besides being an actor, he was very in tune with his families life. His daughter, Meadow Rain, 15, moved to California to work on her relationship with her father. He said that his focus was being a dad, and his acting career was just his job. Walker will be dearly missed by family, friends, and fans around the globe. He lived fast, and died young, but his legacy will live on for generations to come.
