Wantagh High School’s Mathletes Off to a Great Start

Jenna Miller, Editor in Chief

Wantagh High School’s Mathletes, one of the largest clubs in the school consisting of a variety of students of all grade levels, competed in their first home and away competitions in mid-October and early November. The advisor of the club is Mrs. Mary Coons, who helps prepare the team adequately before each competition so they can do their best.

At the first competition held at Seaford High School, the Mathletes won by a landslide against Seaford and Plainedge High Schools. The team scored a whopping 39 points – the highest they ever scored at a competition in the history of the Wantagh Mathletes team. They also broke the record for the highest amount of students on the team scoring 5 questions right out of 6, with Jenna Miller, Athena Yao, Travis Minutoli, and Abby Colaco all achieving this distinction.

The second competition at Wantagh High School was also phenomenal, with Wantagh’s team dominating the competition and scoring a total of 38 points. Tyler Lucher, Brianna McCartney, and Jenna Miller helped lead the team to victory, with Lucher and McCartney each answering 4 questions correctly and Miller answering 5.
