Two years after the announcement of “Midnights” on the VMA stage, Taylor Swift has announced a brand new album while accepting her award for Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys. While on stage accepting her award, Swift admitted that she couldn’t be where she is now without her fans and in return for their dedication, announced her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department” coming out on April 19th. Swift kept the secret of this album for two years until she won her lucky number thirteenth Grammy. This announcement comes after days and even weeks of fans receiving clues and easter eggs from Swift leading them to believe the “Taylor’s Version” re-recording of her 2016 album “Reputation” would be next. The release of her eleventh studio album comes after two re-recordings and follows a 1:2 release pattern of one new album for every two re-records set by “Midnights,” which was released after the first two Taylor Versions re-recordings, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version”). “The Tortured Poets Department” comes after the release of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”
At the Grammys, Taylor Swift was nominated for Album of the Year (“Midnights”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (“Midnights”), both of which she won, as well as Record of the Year (“Anti-Hero”), Song of the Year (“Anti-Hero”), and Best Solo Performance (“Anti-Hero”). Swift’s producer and friend, Jack Antonoff, brought home the award for Best Producer, Non-Classical. The Album of the Year win makes Swift the artist with the most wins in the category of all time.
Taylor Swift’s record breaking Eras Tour starts back up again in Tokyo on February 7th and continues into December of this year. Swift is also expected to be in Las Vegas on February 11th to cheer on her boyfriend and football superstar, the Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce, in the Superbowl against the San Francisco 49ers.
