With the holiday season quickly approaching, many individuals find themselves wanting to get into the spirit early. Wantagh’s Onora le Voci and String Ensemble are certainly fulfilling that wish on everybody’s wishlist. On Monday December 2nd, these two audition-only ensembles embarked on their annual holiday tour decked out in holiday gear to the Wantagh Public Library where retired teachers were invited to listen to their students’ work. Then we were off to perform at The Bristal Nursing Home.
It was “such a wonderful morning of music and holiday cheer” exclaimed Shannon, a representative of The Bristal. “Thank you so much for visiting and kicking off the holiday season!”. It’s safe to say, students in both of these high-level ensembles felt the same way. Many students report enjoying spreading holiday cheer to those in nursing homes and to individuals who can’t be “home for the holidays” with their loved ones. Just singing simple carols like “Jingle Bells” or playing the Hanukkah song on the viola can bring a smile to somebody’s face and light up their entire holiday season. After their performance at The Bristal, these talented students made their way over to the Wantagh Public Library after enjoying lunch at the Cherrywood Shopping Plaza. Students performed their holiday repertoire in front of recently retired teachers and at the conclusion of their performances, performers were encouraged to enjoy sweets provided generously by the library and catch up with their elementary school teachers- a true holiday gift.
