Boys’ Volleyball Spikes Competition

Boys Volleyball Spikes Competition

The Wantagh boys’ Varsity volleyball team ended their season with an impressive overall record of 13 – 3. Led by captains Christian Iannelli and Mike King, the boys dominated Conference 4 and took second place. Twenty-one years after introducing Wantagh High School to the boys’ volleyball program, Coach Fugazzi has never been more proud.
“This year was a wonderful experience, and I’ve seen an amazing transformation,” says Coach Fugazzi. “When the program moved to the fall, it was a difficult transition. Over the course of three years – especially the last two – the boys have worked very hard to be a better team. Their hard work definitely paid off.”
There were nine dedicated seniors on the team this year: Christian Iannelli, Mike King, Mike Davanzo, Mike Langdon, Eric Regenbogen, Zach Rowles, Dan Weber, Christian Falcaro, and Joe Leonard. Regenbogen received an All County Honorable Mention, while captains Iannelli and King received All Conference. “I felt that this year, we grew as a family,” says King. “We bonded really well. We played together as one, and that was what made us win. Of course I’m sad to leave these guys, but this year will definitely be a memory that I will cherish forever.”
Also adding to the team’s success were managers Samantha Rossi, Jamie Morris, and Katherine Moran.
Unfortunately, this year was Coach Svolos’ last year with the JV volleyball team. The boys would like to thank Svolos for all of his time and training he put into the team during their JV years that helped them prosper this season.
“I’m looking forward to next year with our remaining juniors and sophomores,” says Coach Fugazzi. “I can’t wait to continue the success we that we’ve achieved.”
