Entering the 2016 season the Wantagh boys’ lacrosse team has a busy schedule in lead up to what looks to be a prosperous season. The Warriors’ non-league schedule includes a five-day trip to Colorado over Easter break where they will play 2 games against Cherry Creek and the Air Academy. The team will also switch conferences and will not play rival Garden City in regular season play.

The team looks strong as they have a surplus of NCAA commitments. These include:

Kyle Sliwak: Hofstra University
Bobby Casey: Hofstra University
Rob Tucker: Pace University
Bruno Surace: Pace University
Dylan Beckwith: Fairfield University
Richie Russo: Lincoln Memorial University
Mark Buchner: Maritime College
Ryan Droluk: Maritime College
Sean Colbert: Saint Joesph’s University (Philadelphia)
Joe Fitzpatrick: Saint John’s University
Casey Murphy: High Point University
Johnny Rohan: Suny Delhi

With a mix of youth and veterans the team eyes yet another successful season but also want to end with a county title and even a shot at the state title.

“I believe we have a great group of guys here this year,” said senior and returning captain Bobby Casey. “Last year didn’t end up the way we wanted it to, but with the amount of work we’ve put in this off season will be a major key to our success.”

The team who returned pretty much everyone from last year looks to use that experience their advantage. “We have a lot of returning starters and young talent coming up and I’m excited to see what the season holds for us,” Caseysaid. “With a lot of seniors on the team the younger Warriors want to bring home a championship for them since this will be the last time many of them will ever play again.”

With being seeded 2nd overall in their new conference Wantagh must battle to stay on top of this conference against new competition and fight for their shot a championship.
