Mayfield Ends Long Losing Streak for Cleveland

Baker Mayfield, reigning Heisman trophy winner, has officially ended the 635-day winless drought for the Cleveland Browns. Mayfield, unlike the previous quarterbacks for the Browns in the last 2 years, led a second-half comeback against the Jets on on September 20. Have the Browns found their starting quarterback?

Mayfield is different from the other the previous 16 quarterbacks who faltered in Cleveland. Mayfield is a two-time walk-on in college at Texas Tech and Oklahoma, and a former Heisman Trophy winner. The pundits doubted that Cleveland should use their No. 1 pick on Mayfield following his arrest in Arkansas and after he planted the Oklahoma flag in the middle of the field after a win at Ohio State.  NFL scouts questioned his character. But Mayfield has since silenced his critics by showing his maturity. During his interview with Colin Cowherd, who called him “undraftable,” Mayfield maturely answered all of his questions, like the NFL franchise quarterback he might just be.

Since leading the Cleveland Browns to a win, Mayfield has been named the newest starting quarterback. where he directed Cleveland to another win and a tie.

Mayfield has found success at every previous level. Mayfield, led his  high school in Lake Travis in Austin, Texas,  to a 25-2 record as the starting quarterback. That team won a state championship in his junior season. The Browns, with key additions this year, are looking to finally become winners.
