Wantagh Girls Varsity Soccer has shown true talent and skill despite losing talented seniors from last year. With four captains, Thalia Valdez, Madison Alaimo, Jennifer Gendels, and Isabella Teresky, goalie Isabella Astaiza, and gifted underclassmen, the team has won four and tied one out of six games so far this season. Most recently, on September 22, the team won with an impressive score of 6-0 against New Hyde Park.

Senior captain, Thalia Valdez, who is committed to play soccer for Long Island University, says, “My hopes for the rest of the season is for our team to keep winning games and working together to be the best we can be. I think if our team continues to work hard during practice and games then I see no doubt in going all the way.”

When asked how this year differs from last, senior captain, Jennifer Gendels, says, “Being a senior captain differs from my previous years on varsity because I have to make sure that I am being a good role model and that the girls on the team feel comfortable coming to me with any advice that they need. It’s important to keep the same strong dynamic on as well as off the field.”

Senior captain, Madison Alaimo, who is committed to play lacrosse for the University of Virginia, trusts that  “The team can continue to improve on working together and believing in each other.” She goes on to say, “Our team is very hardworking and competitive and we have what we need to advance to the next level, we just have to put all the pieces together. We work so hard in practice everyday so we just have to finish our games off strong and we will continue to succeed.”

With solid leadership amongst the team and the overall drive and determination, this 2022 season for the Varsity Soccer team will no doubt have a positive outcome. The girls on the team are improving day by day in order to keep their skills intact for each game.
