The Boys Soccer team is off to a 4-3-3 start with 8 games left in the regular season. They are led by Coaches Tom Ligouri and Franco Zagari. The team captains for this season are seniors Kevin Kramer and Jesse Vanorden.
In an interview with Senior goalie James Ackermann, his hopes for this season included: “to be a playoff level team. Coming off how we did last year we knew we had to wake up and step up as a team. We knew we had too much potential to have another poor season.” Ackermann also shared “ (t)eam chemistry is very good with the team we have this year. We are playing well and getting along very well. Seeing each other at practice and at school, we are extremely close and that makes us better on the field”. The team record last season was 2-9-3, so they have made an amazing improvement. When asked if he thinks the team has a chance at winning a big title this year, James responded “I think this team can go places. If we work hard, we have a shot at counties or even states. We have to remember to continue to get better and focus on the task at hand.” After tying 2022 county champions Locust Valley, winning this year is very possible.
Standout players for this season are both captains: Jesse Vanorden and Kevin Kramer. Other standout players are James Ackermann, Logan Jaramillo, and Alex Barberio. The team is also extremely young with many underclassmen on the team. They have a great shot at winning this year and an extremely bright future.
Update as of 10/18: In a game on 10/17 against Friends Academy, Damien Crowley scored with 30 seconds left to push Wantagh into a playoff spot.
