Badminton: a fun P.E. class pastime and summer recreational activity that some people may say is akin to tennis. Many Wantagh students have played badminton at some point in their lives, but only a select few can proudly say that they were on the Varsity Team. Coached by history teacher Ms. Jones, this team is composed of 23 girls ranging from freshmen to seniors. Of those members, 12 are graduating seniors: Katrina Pastore, Nicoletta Zito, Jaclyn Silverman, Madeline Rose, Meghan Libby, Heather Sheridan, Jessica Konecky, Kristen Mittel, Catherine Ibrahim, Maylani Lee, Emma Nicholas, and Olivia Belling. Wantagh’s Girls Badminton Team played hard throughout the season, winning many matches against other Nassau County schools. Athletes on the team adored practices, pushing themselves to be their best physically and mentally. With over half of the team moving on to various colleges in the fall, Wantagh Badminton will certainly have large shoes to fill in the wake of the seniors’ happy exit. Although the team did not advance in the playoffs, they showed their prowess in the sport, and we can’t wait to see the team’s achievements next season!
