The 2023-24 season has been outstanding for Wantagh Varsity Softball. In the regular season, the team recovered from an unsure start and built their way up to the playoffs. The team is lead by captains Casey Kissinger, Jacqueline Mundy, Mackenzie Hayes, and Emma Priest and coaches Moran and Rathgaber. Seniors on the team include Casey Kissinger, Jacqueline Mundy, Isabella Bartilucci, Adrianna Oronges and Danielle Oronges. Four freshmen and one eighth grade student, a younger sister of one of the seniors, were pulled up this year to fill out the Varsity roster.
In a truly shocking turn of events, the girls have exited the playoffs after a three game countied series against Seaford High School. About the season, the seniors share a similar sentiment of wanting to extend their last season as far as possible. About their successful season, senior captain Casey Kissinger, one of Newsdays top 100 softball players on Long Island, said “the regular season started off a little rocky… Last year, we got to the county semifinals so we were all putting some pressure on ourselves. After a tough loss we put our heads together and realized that as long as we played loose and confident we would succeed.” Kssinger shares that saying goodbye to the Wantagh softball program after playing for the team for six years is hard for her. She says, “Though all good things must end, I wish this could go on forever. Wantagh softball is my second family and always will be.” Kissinger will continue her academic and athletic career at Molly University.
The JV team had similar success this year to varsity. The team was undefeated with 13 wins and one tie on the season.
The Wantagh community cannot wait to see the successes of the graduating seniors in their college careers and the varsity softball team in the years to come.
