Everyone needs a laptop for college, but what laptop should one buy? There are so many choices out there, it’s overwhelming! But do not fear, this article will guide you through 3 kinds of laptops, from Chromebook to Professional, showcasing good deals for laptops.
Starting out simple with the Chromebook, a device made by Google for education! Ultimately, almost all education-focused Chromebooks are not built for tasks heavier than light web browsing or general tasks. If that’s all you need to do, I would recommend the ASUS Chromebook CM30 Detachable. It gives the best performance for the cost, at only $299 for a great processor and ram at this price! If you’re looking for something cheaper, you’ll have to sacrifice performance, and that leads to a poor experience when using multiple tabs at the same time. It’s important to know that all Chromebooks are designed for web browsing only, so don’t expect to use any intensive programs or anything special.
With the Chromebook being so limited, some may want to search for something more powerful in the software department. Some may need to use special software like Autodesk CAD, Autodesk Maya, Unreal Engine, or any other “Pro” software. For tasks like these, I would recommend the Dell Precision 5680 Workstation. It’s fairly expensive, at $1,242.75, but a good computer costs a fair bit. It has a decent amount of ram, coming in at 16 GB. Unfortunately, the amount of onboard storage on the base model of the device is pretty small, only having 256 GB. If you need more storage, you can double that amount for only $35.78 more on Dell’s website. The laptop also comes with the powerful RTX 3500 ADA, which is equivalent in power to the desktop equivalent, the RTX 3060.
But maybe you aren’t doing anything like that, you don’t need a supercomputer and you can’t use a chromebook. All you need is a middle of the road machine, a laptop that can do most work at an efficient speed and at a low cost. This is where the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop comes in, an Intel powerhouse coming in at $379.99. It has 512 GB of storage, and you can halve that storage and reduce the price by $100.00 if you don’t need the space. It has a decent amount of ram, at 8 GB. It’s a good general purpose machine for the price!
