Taylor Swift’s Feud

Taylor Swift found it hard to “Shake it Off” on November 14. The famous singer informed her fans about the looming feud between her and her music producer, Scooter Braun. Braun’s company acquired Swifts producing company, Big Machine Label Group in a massive deal with an investment firm, The Carlyle Group. This deal was over $300 million and included the ownership all of Swift’s albums, including her self-titled album, Taylor Swift, as well as Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation. Swifts most recent album, Lover, was produced by Swift and therefore does not have any legal binding to the record label. In a frustrated Instagram post, Swift explained the situation by saying, “I didn’t know what else to do.” In this post, Swift explained that Scooter Braun was withholding her music and not allowing her to perform it since he legally owns it- even though Swift wrote the songs herself. Many celebrities such as Halsey and Selena Gomez have weighed in on the feud by supporting Swift.

Although any Swift concerts in the near future will feature songs exclusively from Lover, Swift was concerned about the AMA awards specifically. This is the most important night for music other than the Grammys and Swift was honored with the prestigious award known as Artist of the Decade. She performed her old music as well as new music such as, “The Man”, “Love Story”, “Shake it Off”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Blank Space”, and her hit single, “Lover.”

However, after a very public feud and an emotional plea to her fans, Braun agreed to let Swift perform all of her music at the AMA awards. This was mentioned in a statement from the record label on November 18, however, it is only for one night. So now the question becomes, what happens after that? Taylor Swift fans have chimed in their opinions to this question by issuing death threats to the record label, Scooter Braun, and his family. In an interview with Variety Magazine, Braun broke his silence on the situation, calling out Swift fans for sending him threats and tells Swift to meet with him in a private meeting instead of having a public feud on social media. As of now, it is unclear what the future will bring for the, “Shake it Off” singer and her master records.
