Our beloved teacher, Mrs. Coon is retiring in her 30th year of teaching. Mrs. Coons first taught at William Floyd School District and in Valley Stream for 7 years. She taught here at Wantagh for 23 years. Though she certainly has wonderful memories here at Wantagh, she states, “There are too many good times to count”
Indeed there are so many times in our life that are optimistic, that are powerfully beautiful, and to count them all is simply impossible, nonetheless rate them. Mrs. Coons continued, “The most rewarding part of teaching is when a struggling student puts forth the effort and comes out on top at the end of the school year. Math is a challenging subject for so many kids, so when I see the “light bulb” go on, it makes me happy.” Though she will clearly miss teaching, she will be able to spend more time with her family and friends, even help with babysitting her grandson. She also says that she plans on travelling or doing some volunteer work. Mrs. Coons also likes reading, working out, and gardening. She’ll definitely has quite the life ahead of her! Mr. Roberts, a math teacher, shared, “It’s been an honor and a pleasure to work with Mrs. Coons for the last 4 years. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we’re sad that she is retiring, but, we’re also very happy for her at the same time because she’s worked a very long and fulfilling career.”
I think he does speak for everyone. Mrs. Coons has helped so much throughout her life, education being one of the most important thing in life, which Mrs. Coons has very graciously given to so many. But now is her time to calculate her life, and teach herself how to live life without worries. We’ll miss you, Mrs. Coons!
