The high school experience of Wantagh always comes with the annual tradition of Battle of the Classes! This year’s Battle of the Classes started out strong. Throughout the year, each grade competes to win points by making a float for the Homecoming parade, decorating the showcase, dressing up for Spirit Week, and much more. Whoever has more points leads the night. This year, the Freshman had more points, as they won the showcase decoration as well as the Homecoming parade. But during the night, a series of activities happen, so if you weren’t there to experience it, I’ll sum it up for you.
Battle of the Classes took place, like usual, in the gym. This year it was March 12th at 6:00 pm. The Freshman, though leading the night, did not win. However the Freshman were cheering for the Juniors and vice versa. And though the Freshman didn’t win, they did win the tug of war against Juniors, which left them in third place. The Sophomores, however, were having a struggle this year. Though the Sophomores had a year of experience, and seemed to be strong enough, the real battle seemed to be between the Seniors and Juniors. Eventually, during the volleyball matches, which was the last activity of the night, the Seniors won their last points. Seniors took first place, the Juniors came in second, Freshmen in third, and Sophomores in fourth. Though the spirit was competitive, it was also normal excitement and fun that took possession of everyone. Whether you were simply watching the activities, or being in charge of the multitude of people, it was definitely a fun experience that everyone should participate in.
