Bone Marrow Drive for Wantagh’s Kaitlyn Rochel, 8

Wantagh High School hosted a bone marrow drive for dance and soccer loving 8-year-old Kaitlyn Rochel who is battling her third round of Leukemia, Januuary 28.
The drive had a successful turnout along with raffles, a bake sale, “Hope for Kaitlyn” bracelets, feather hair extensions and more to help raise money for the family.
Kaitlyn is in need of a second bone marrow transplant. Through this event, Kaitlyn’s family is hoping to find a match for a transplant. Kaitlyn is no longer able to participate in the activities she loves, see her friends or even attend school, yet she still has managed to keep a hopeful, positive attitude through these five tough years. Anyone over the age of 18 who attended the event was able to get their cheek swabbed to see if they could be a potential match; hoping to save Kaitlyn’s life or someone else’s.
The support of the community foreshadows a brighter future, and we hope, an exact marrow match for little Kaitlyn.
