This June, Signora Calosso says arrivederci to Wantagh High School. Mrs. Calosso began her career as a foreign  language teacher of Italian, French and Spanish in the Sewanhaka School District, where she worked for 5 and a half years. After that, she took the next five years off when she had her two children. While at home, she completed her degree in Educational Administration and then began her career as the Foreign Language Chairperson of Wantagh Schools in September 1990.

Mrs. Calosso was also presented with the opportunity to expand her professional experience by assuming the additional role of Business Education Supervisor in 1996 and then ENL Supervisor shortly thereafter. Mrs. Calosso describes her experience at Wantagh as a wonderful place to work.

Mrs. Calosso had planned to begin her retirement by traveling to many places around the world with her husband. However, their plans have been placed on hold due to the pandemic. “We are hopeful to have the opportunity to fulfill those dreams one day soon,” says Mrs.  Calosso. “We also look forward to enjoying our four beautiful grandchildren and to not being awakened by an alarm at 5:00 am each day!”

As for what she will miss most about Wantagh High School: “I will certainly miss the daily interaction with the amazing teachers in my departments, talented team of administrators and wonderful group of students. I truly enjoy visiting classrooms and observing the learning process unfold and I will miss those experiences.”

Mrs. Calosso has played a significant role in the Wantagh School district’s language department these past 30 years and will be dearly missed.  “We congratulate Mrs. Calosso on an incredible career and for bringing and keeping World Languages at the forefront of Wantagh’s academics,” says World Language and ENL teacher Mr. Zagari.

“I speak for the entire World Language Department when I say, congratulations to Mrs. Calosso,” says Italian teacher, Mrs. Hampson. “She has dedicated her career to making sure foreign language was a focus in Wantagh. From starting language at the elementary level to implementing AP language courses at the High School, her passion for language has always been respected and appreciated by all who have had the pleasure of working with her. We wish her a healthy and happy retirement! Auguri! Felicidades! Félicitations!”

As Mrs.Calosso welcomes the next chapter of her life, she will never forget her years as a member of the district, and her role as the Supervisor of the World Language, Business Ed and ENL Departments.  She said, “Although I will not  be in Wantagh each day, I will always cherish the memories.”
