The Day of Sportsnite

The+Day+of+Sportsnite

Wantagh High School’s 57th annual Sportsnite went deep into the evening in front of a packed gym, March 30. All the participating girls were split into their two teams, Blackies By the Sea and Goldies Salute America. The Black team was led by overall captains Amanda Smook and Kate Sneddon. The Gold team was led by overall captains Julie Goode and Devon Luckey.

The teams worked hard starting in January and finally three months later Gold captured its fourth straight Sportsnite, 46-37.

The night started with the Blackie over-all captains challenging Gold team to a fair and fun filled Sportsnite . The girls started their constant cheering that later turned into their captains cheer. The Black team’s captains’ cheer was to the tune of” Sweet Child of Mine” led by spirit captains Brooke Breyer and Melissa McFadden. The Gold team captains’ cheer was to the tune of “come together” led by captains Nicole Balnis and Lisa Douglas. Once the captains’ cheer ended it was time for the sports.

Gold took the victory in each sports’ category. Then came the dances. Black dances revolved around the theme of under the sea including life guards, mermaids, sailors and sharks. The Goldies’ dances revolved around the theme of America including bald eagles, the statue of liberty, the Olympics, and the U.S. Amry. At the end of the night it was time for the awards. For many years Mr. Svolos had been the official Sportsnite scorer but this year first-year Athletic Director Ms. Keene took over the job.
