Wantagh’s Cross Country team had an incredible season for the 2012-2013 school year. Coach Kristin Frazer’s boys’ and girls’ teams ended the season with impressive records. Captains Pat Lavin, Vinny Tesoriero, and Paul Hilton led the boys and finished with a record of 8 – 3. The girls have also had an impressive run this year, with a record of 10 – 1, led by captains Grace Albert, Michelle Henderson, and Gabby Soethout.
Unfortunately, because of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, County Championships – which were supposed to be held Saturday, November 3 – were canceled. Times from Conference Championships were carried over and the top 3 teams along with the top 5 fastest individual runners were sent to States. Counties were then rescheduled for Wednesday, November 14, only to be canceled again because Eisenhower Park was closed to the public.
“I’m really mad about this,” says captain Grace Albert. “I’ve been running for 5 years now, and as a senior, I wanted to wrap up the season on a good note. While we won’t get to run one of the biggest races of the season, it’s still been a great year for the team.”
Boys’, Girls’ XC Teams Continue to Excel
