Warriors Remain Perfect Midway Through Season
At the midway point of the football season the Warriors were undefeated (4-0) allowing the fewest points on Long Island. They continued their reign of dominance over Nassau Conference III with another convincing win over the second seed Lawrence and Hewlett as well.
The team started the game by stopping Lawrence on Wantagh’s own 5 yard line with a missed field goal on Lawrence’s best drive of the game. It was all Wantagh after this as they went on a 95 yard drive capped off by a 15 yard touchdown run by junior Tom Rohan. The following Lawrence possession was a quick one as Jimmy Joyce intercepted a pass on the first play. Wantagh’s next play was a 50 yard touchdown pass from Jake Castellano to fullback Gavin Casey which gave the Warriors a quick a 14-0 lead. The team made it a 21 point lead as Anthony D’Onofrio caught a touchdown pass in the middle of the second quarter. They would carry that into halftime and never look back as Mike Pierogiavanni would add 3 points to the lead with a field goal in the third and Gavin Casey ran in a one yard touchdown in the fourth. The game would end with a score of 31-6 as Lawrence scored on the last play of the game.
The team played their final home game also known as senior day against the Hewlett Bulldogs. The Warriors offense was too much for the Bulldogs to handle as the Warrior offense scored 42 points in 3 quarters and scored on every one of their possessions up till that point. The defense allowed 14 points in the first half which was the most they’ve allowed in any full game all year but bounced back in the second half shutting down the Hewlett offense till under a minute left. With the final score being 42-21 the Warriors are now 6-0 and now are ranked number 2 on Long Island small schools only behind Sayville.
