“Back in the Alley”

Wantagh bowling is back. After almost a year, on January 11, 2021 Wantagh competed for the first time in any sport since the beginning of March last year when Covid first caused the people of Wantagh to quarantine. Due to the new rules, everyone must wear a mask while bowling, fill out daily Covid screening forms, and the team can only take a limited amount of competing bowlers to matches. This may be a lot, but the Wantagh bowlers are ready to take on this new challenge.

This year, I am coming on for my fourth year of bowling for the school. Last year, I was supposed to represent Wantagh in states; however, the tournament was cancelled. Unfortunately, there is no state competition this year. For someone who loves bowling just as much as kids love Christmas, this is tough to hear, but, as the Wantagh Warriors, we roll on. This is the year Wantagh works to win counties. At the January 11th bowling match, we beat Plainedge. Rj Canestro bowled a 208, 204, and 179, and I bowled  242, 212, and 202, which helped lead us to Wantagh’s first bowling match victory since February of 2019. In addition, the rest of the team did amazing and is excited to work toward more and more wins. A win like this wouldn’t be possible without our coach, Mr. Polo. He is dedicated to help make the bowling program fun, safe, and competitive with his signature line “Keep your mind out of the gutter.” Covid may be difficult and new for bowlers, but the Warriors are ready to strike our way to the top of Nassau County.
