Girls Varsity Soccer Closes Its Season

The word “together” holds great meaning to the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. It is a reminder that we are a whole team, rather than a team of individuals. Together, we understand the true meaning of what it is like to be a Warrior.

The Girls Varsity Soccer team competes in the Power Conference. Being a part of the Power Conference is a great honor. We have the opportunity to represent Wantagh by playing against the best teams throughout Nassau County. Every game is a battle; it isn’t easy. Each game, we experienced difficult competition with a great deal of talent. An incredible trait that this team has is that we never give up. We battle the entire eighty minutes of every game with our heads held high.

This year, our captains Matiana Valdez and Leena Moussa, have led our team to the Nassau County Quarterfinals. Although this year was drastically different in various ways, we never took anything for granted. Senior captain Leena Moussa says, “I’m beyond thankful to have had the opportunity to step foot on the turf in my soccer uniform one last time, especially after not being able to play last year due to an injury.”  The seniors weren’t sure if they would be able to play their final soccer season in high school, considering how quickly sports were canceled last year.

Senior defender, Reilly Brady states, “This season was so fun and given the circumstances, I think we did a great job of making it the best we could. I’m so sad it’s over but it was definitely one for the books.” Brady played an important role on the soccer team. She was a unit on the defensive end.

Senior captain Matiana Valdez says, “I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to get my last high school soccer season in with everything going on. The girls definitely made the most of it and I’m going to miss playing with all of them next year.” Valdez has been a part of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team since eighth grade. She was ecstatic to have had the opportunity to play her fifth year.
