Wantagh’s Golf team, coached by Mr. Colavita and led by Junior captain Kyle Conklin, finished the season with a 4-7-1 record which is extremely impressive compared to other years. The 2022 roster consisted of 8th grader Kyler Biesma, 11th graders Kyle Conklin, Brendan Yager, Matt Silverman, Jason Sarosy, Darrin Santucci, and Alex Lucchese. The team’s seniors were Danny Pettinato, Matt Panella, Tommy Murray, and Liam McQuillan.

Mr. Kravitz (Assistant Coach) noted, “ a season highlight was Conklin draining an 8-foot-downhill putt on the final hole to defeat his Garden City opponent by a stroke with a 42 on the back nine of Bethpage Yellow.” While the Warriors lost the match, “Conklin became the first Wantagh golfer to defeat a Garden city opponent ending a streak of 82 straight defeats to the perennial-conference powerhouse GC golfers.”

Conklin shared that the team chemistry was very good this year but they need a lot more to go far next year. He said he’s seen a marked improvement in the top six starting slots of the team. Conkin also noted a few standout players this year were Brendan Yager and Darrin Santucci.

Kyle Conklin was selected as a top 20 golfer in Nassau County and will compete in the All County tournament this spring. He is one of the best golfers Wantagh has seen in years and it will be exciting to watch him and the team grow.
